Schedule a meeting with EMC staff to discuss your project with us. We will help identify the microscopy needs for your specific project and provide suggestions on how to prepare and submit your samples. New clients will have to register as an EMC user through the FOM system first. Registered users can request services under the section through FOM. Please make sure to notify us prior to sample submission, and study our policies!
Discounted rates are offered for University of Missouri researchers. Contact us to find out more!
Most biological samples need to be fixed before submission, please make sure to follow the guidelines below. Under some circumstances fixation may not be necessary, e.g. for some environmental SEM or negative staining applications.
- We provide fresh fixative for free, as well as instructions on how to fix your samples properly.
- Tissue samples should be no larger than 1 mm on a side to ensure proper fixation (Chemical fixation starts at the sample surface and continues as the fixative penetrates deeper into the tissue. To allow quick penetration it is imperative to keep the sample small).
- We can not guarantee good results if a sample is handled improperly before submission to the EMC (e.g. improper fixation, extended storage, sample dried out or frozen etc.).
- Please label your submitted samples clearly, including date, name and unique identification.
